Vince Angelo keeps you company 10-3

Vince is a real hot dog!

A little more about Vince Angelo...
  • A little bit about me:

I have been in and out of radio for a long time.  I got my start in the broadcasting industry way back in 1983 as a part-time DJ for Pottsville radio station WPPA AM 1360.  At first I was really disappointed with only making $3.35 an hour (minimum wage in 1983), but I soon learned that radio is not about the money…it’s about the fun!

While working at WPPA back in the 1980’s and 90’s, I gradually worked my way up the corporate ladder and retired from radio in 1996 as Program Director (glorified baby-sitter) at WPPA.  I left radio and went into economic development for the City of Pottsville for about five years.  After that, I went into banking until our bank was sold to a behemoth bank and then we all lost our jobs.

So, in 2002, homeless and penniless, I was talking to Jackie Hoffman, of Y-102 and I asked her if there were any openings at Y-102.  Sure enough, as dumb luck would have it – Y-102 was looking for a part-time lackie.  Someone who could work for all the full-timers while they took their precious vacations – that was my job.  I eagerly accepted the position (which by the way paid a little bit better than minimum wage – thank you Clear Channel!)  and soon I developed a fan base right here in good ole Reading!  After a while, Al Burke hired me full-time as the afternoon traffic reporter for Rock Hits Y-102.  I did that job for about four years and then I was promoted to Production Director, which is the worst job you can have in radio, but the pay is pretty good.  So, I have been Production Director for about four years now.  I like it.  I am responsible for all the on-air advertising and station imaging.  I work on the computer all day producing commercials.  Then at night, I am let loose to be the host of Y-102’s Night Show from 7 till midnight!

    My personal life:

Everybody wants to know the personal stuff, so here goes…

I live in Ephrata with my wife, Sue, her dad, and our cats - Aria and Mini! Aria is mellow because she's 9 years old which is something like 77 in cat years. Mini is young - born June 1, 2011 and she is a hellion!    I have three beautiful daughters:  Becky, who is 24 and graduated from West Chester University with a degree in marketing in December 2010.  Nicole, 18, is enrolled at McCann School of Business in Pottsville; and Emily, who is 15 going on 25.  She’s is in the 9th grade at Blue Mountain High School up in Schuylkill.  My daughters are my proudest accomplishment.  I haven’t done too many things right in life, but I got it right with my girls!  I am so proud of them!

I like to go mountain biking, hiking, walking, and of course I like to talk – a lot!  I also like to go target shooting with high-powered handguns and rifles.  I am also an avid amateur photographer- I have a Pentax k-r.  Other than that, I try to relax everyday, even if it’s for only 10 minutes.  I do like to be on the go all the time.  I only sleep about 5 hours a night, because any more sleep than that is a waste of life as far as I am concerned.

I like reading philosophy, and my favorite philosopher is Albert Camus.  If you don’t know how to pronounce Albert’s last name correctly, then you don’t know anything about philosophy.

    My favorite foods:

    Homemade Pierogies

    Halupkies

    Dutch Potato Filling

    Spaghetti and Meatballs

    Bacon Cheeseburgers

    My favorite candy treat:

    M&M’s!!!

    Any type of chocolate!!!

    My favorite bands/artists:

In no particular order, here we go:

    Moody Blues

    Pink Floyd

    Led Zeppelin

    The Doors

    The Eagles

    Steely Dan

    Eric Clapton

    Johnny Cash

    My education:

I am proud to say that I am a graduate of Alvernia University here in Reading with a BS in Business Administration.

    What does WRFY stand for?

Some people think WRFY stands for We Rock For You…but the original meaning of our call letters stood for this - Wonderful Radio For You!
